# Changelog Build: v0.9.26.300 Date: 27/10/2026 All notable changes to the **BudgieBackup** suite are documented in this file. Budgie Backup Suite: CreateBudgieBackupFile, RunBudgieBackupFile, BudgieBackupSysTray, BudgieBackupUpdater, BudgieBackupSync and BudgieBackupScreenSaver The suite is currently in **pre-1.0 alpha**. All apps share a single version number. Entries dated before the current release are grouped development milestones rather than individually shipped versions. ## All (CreateBudgieBackupFile, RunBudgieBackupFile, BudgieBackupSysTray, BudgieBackupUpdater, BudgieBackupSync, Budgie Backup.scr, Budgie Backup 3D.scr, Installer) ---------------- - v0.9.26.300 Updated to Wix MSI Installer (not NSIS) - v0.9.26.300 Alpha Build Expiry Update 1/1/2027 - v0.9.26.288 Changed buymeacoffee link form https://buymeacoffee.com/budgiebackup to https://buymeacoffee.com/fearby - v0.9.26.279 New: Budgie Backup 3D.scr, a second screen saver that shows your drives on a 3D stage. It installs beside Budgie Backup.scr with its own tick box (ticked by default) and is updated with the rest of the suite. - v0.9.26.273 Bug reports: at most one report an hour can be sent from a PC, across all the Budgie Backup apps. If you try sooner the report is not sent and nothing you typed is lost - the message says when you can send it. Only a report that was actually delivered starts the hour. - v0.9.26.273 Bug reports and alpha tester sign-ups are now rate limited on the server too, so repeated or automated submissions are turned away there even if the limit in the app is bypassed. - v0.9.26.272 7-Zip (7z.dll) and SevenZipSharp are no longer installed. Nothing ever used them - backups are standard .zip files, and split .zip.001 volumes still open in 7-Zip if you have it installed yourself. Updating removes the old 7z.dll. - v0.9.26.272 Alpha testers: update ALL the apps at the same time. FormatVersion 17 backup files cannot be opened by older apps. - v0.9.26.272 Alpha expiry extended to 15 November 2026 (CreateBudgieBackupFile and RunBudgieBackupFile). - v0.9.26.272 Terms of Service and Disclaimer refreshed (legal review): trademarks of others and non-affiliation are now stated, referral links are disclosed, your Australian Consumer Law rights are preserved, the governing law is New South Wales, the alpha tester deal is spelled out, the privacy wording is corrected (only the bug-report email and alpha sign-up details are ever sent), and a new Section 24 covers ownership and licence. - v0.9.26.272 third_party_licences.txt now carries the full MIT and Apache 2.0 licence texts and a trademarks notice. privacy.txt names who is responsible and no longer mentions 7-Zip. - v0.9.26.272 Terms updated again: the alpha tester programme no longer mentions a licence, Backblaze referral credits are stated plainly, the antillescoffee.com link is declared as a personal thank-you (no benefit), and alpha registrations are deleted by 31 December 2026. - v0.9.26.272 Copyright in every program's file properties (and the installer's) now reads "Copyright (c) 2026 Simon Fearby". - v0.9.26.271 New backup folder layout for the folders and files you add yourself (Fav Folders, Fav Files, "Add a folder", "Add a file"): each drive gets one folder named after its letter and label, with the full original path inside, e.g. FAVFOLDER_C_Windows11\_BB_Backup_This and FAVFILE_D_MP600_1TB_SIMON\AI\yolov5\requirements.txt. No more _BB_Backup_This_2, _3 ... in the top of the backup, and no top-level "Files" folder. - v0.9.26.271 Budgie Backup files move to "FormatVersion": 17. Older apps refuse to open them rather than writing the old layout. - v0.9.26.271 Alpha testers: backups made before this change keep the old layout and are not reorganised. Start a new backup folder after updating, otherwise the old folders stay beside the new ones. - v0.9.26.266 Further Security review of all six apps (defensive hardening, see each app below). - v0.9.26.266 Built-in web servers (Remote Monitor in RunBudgieBackupFile and BudgieBackupSync, Phone Upload in the tray app) are now local-network only: they never listen on an internet-routable address, only accept connections from this PC's own subnet or the PC itself, and their firewall rules are limited to "local subnet". - v0.9.26.266 Remote Monitor code (PIN) is now stored encrypted (DPAPI, this Windows user only) instead of as plain text in the registry. - v0.9.26.266 Files, folders and web links opened from an administrator app now open at normal user level (never with admin rights). - v0.9.26.263 Retina Mac Updates (Bug Report Forms Reduced in size to fit the screen) - v0.9.26.262 Updated all (except Screen Saver) Bug Report screens (GDRP), No forced email, better notiifications, no screenshots attached by default, you can can edit the text data before being sent, - v0.9.26.262 Bug reports are now encrypted on your PC before they are sent, The report is encrypted with AES-256-GCM (NIST SP 800-38D) under a fresh 256-bit key generated from the operating system's CSPRNG for that one report. That key is then wrapped with RSA-4096 using RSAES-OAEP with SHA-256 (PKCS #1 v2.2 / RFC 8017). Only the public half of the key pair is built into the apps - a public key can lock but never unlock, so even complete possession of the executable gives no ability to read any report, including reports already uploaded. The private key exists on one machine (off the internet) and is never shipped, installed or committed. Encrypted but reports are only stored online for hours then talen offline. - v0.9.26.262 GDPR concerns this addresses. Bug reports can contain personal data - logs, screenshots, and an email address if one is given. Encrypting them is an appropriate technical measure under Art. 32(1)(a) and supports the integrity-and-confidentiality principle in Art. 5(1)(f). Because encryption happens on the user's own machine before upload, the contents are unreadable to the transport and storage providers as well, limiting sub-processor exposure. - v0.9.26.262 Supplying an email is now optional; an untouched placeholder is no longer recorded or transmitted as though it were a real address; and the address is no longer written into the verbose log, An email address is personal data and was the only such data the application stored at rest. Encrypting it is a technical measure under Art. 32(1)(a), and making it optional serves data minimisation under Art. 5(1)(c). The scope matters: a copy of the registry hive taken off the machine - in a backup, a disk image, a roaming profile, or by another user account - can no longer be decrypted. - v0.9.26.262 Removed "Include other recent log files from this session", - v0.9.26.257 Testing non 100% Font Scaling and Text Size (More Tweaks) - v0.9.26.253 Testing non 100% Font Scaling and Text Size - v0.9.26.252 Bug report "App version" fixed. - v0.9.26.252 Internal Documentation Changes - v0.9.26.249 Security review across all six apps, covering credential handling, logging, the update chain and the bug-report upload path. - v0.9.26.249 Added a privacy statement (privacy.txt) setting out what leaves your PC, what never does, and how long a submitted bug report is kept. - v0.9.26.249 Added a third-party licences document (third_party_licences.txt) naming every bundled component, its licence, and where to get its source. - v0.9.26.249 Documentation refresh: the disclaimer now points at budgiebackup.com for updates and downloads, typos fixed throughout, and known_bugs.txt reports no open issues. - v0.9.26.248 Buy Me a Coffee link on the last page of the installer. - v0.9.26.248 Updated Alpha Expiry to 31 October 2026 - v0.9.26.248 On an Uncaught Exception start a Bug Report - v0.9.26.248 Digital Signing on all Apps during the build - v0.9.26.247 Bug Fixes - v0.9.26.247 More Automated Test Cases - v0.9.26.247 Code Review. - v0.9.26.243 Optimised the build process. - v0.9.26.243 Tightened nullable code paths. - v0.9.26.243 Launched https://budgiebackup.com as the new public site; Yes signs it for this Windows account and it opens normally from then on; until then it will not start, replace or shut down automatically. - v0.9.26.272 Bug report: same screenshot changes as CreateBudgieBackupFile (opt-in, only the thumbnails shown, no Submit-time self-screenshot). - v0.9.26.272 Time remaining now blends files-per-second with MB/s, so folders full of small files no longer show wildly optimistic times, and the estimate restarts for each backup step. - v0.9.26.272 Speed chart totals cover the whole run, and the byte counts shown are the bytes actually copied. - v0.9.26.272 A problem while checking the backup folders no longer skips the end-of-run steps, and the final progress update is never dropped. - v0.9.26.272 Mirror clean-up dialog (files in the backup no longer on your PC): no 30-minute auto-close, each file counted once, wording "deleted (or moved)", and the 20 largest items listed. - v0.9.26.272 An exclusion rule of an unknown kind is ignored instead of being treated as a name pattern. - v0.9.26.272 Pressing Start now works from one snapshot of the loaded backup file for every preparation step (it could previously re-read it mid-way). - v0.9.26.272 A split-volume or direct-to-zip write failure now reports a clear error instead of an internal crash. - v0.9.26.272 No longer carries the unused 7-Zip engine (SevenZipSharp). - v0.9.26.272 Code quality: nullable-reference checking is on for the whole app (403 warnings fixed, 0 left), plus new automated tests for the time-remaining estimate and the mirror clean-up counts. - v0.9.26.271 Folders and files you added yourself are stored under one folder per drive (FAVFOLDER__
